While I have always been captivated by beauty of the old Dutch and German masters of portraiture, the time I spent in the Berlin's Gemäldegalerie, was the turning point for me. Looking at the works of Jan van Eyck, Hans Holbein the Younger and Cranach, it became clear how ageless these portraits look to me, how contemporary the faces are, and how much I wanted to know the story behind each image and each person.

Since then it become a habit for me to look at people hoping to see the similarities to those faces in the classic paintings. I started recreating the portraits with my lights and lenses. Over time I have learned more and more about the way these paintings were created, about lives of the artists and about the stories behind each person portrayed.

Want to thank all my friends and associates who were willing to model for me, the staff of opera house's costume department who helped me to put together the costumes, and the curators and directors of the museums that I asked for help understanding some set or interior detail.

The series is in the process of continued development, waiting for additions to my recreated works of Holbein and Christus.
